Mikhail Bychkov
Bychkov finished GITIS (the class of Maria Knebel). In 1981-1983 he worked at the Baltic Fleet Theatre in Liepāja (Latvia). In 1983-1985 he is Artistic Director of the Altai TYuZ in Barnaul. His stagings there include Mikhail Bulgakov’s “Don Quixote”, Viktor Astafiev’s “Forgive Me”… In 1986-1988 Bychkov worked at the Irkutsk Youth Theatre where he directed “Ward No. 6” after Anton Chekhov, Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and George Byron’s “Cain”. In 1988-1993 Bychkov was Artistic Director of the Voronezh Youth Theatre where he staged “The Catcher in the Rye” after Salinger, “Kashtanka” and “Rothschild’s Fiddle” after Chekhov, “The Night before Christmas” after Gogol, Ionesco’s “Rhinoceros” and Anouilh’s “Eurydice”. In 1993 Bychkov and a group of his associates set up the Voronezh Chamber Theatre. The productions there include Racine’s “Berenice”, “Jamais” after Alexander Vertinsky, Lermontov’s “Masquerade”, Pinter’s “The Caretaker”, Pavich’s “Eternity and One Day More”, Bergman’s “Persona”, Dostoyevsky’s “Uncle’s Dream”, Strindberg’s “Miss July”, Grishkovets’s “Winter”, Ibsen’s “Hedda Gabler”, Schimmelpfening’s “Before and After”, “Electra and Orestes” after Eurepides, “The Cynics” after Marienhof, Ostrovsky’s “A Fat Office”. In theatres of St. Petersburg Bychkov staged Ibsen’s “Nora” (White Theatre and Dostoyevsky Museum), Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire” (Abode of Comedians), Yuri Olesha’s “The Conspiracy of Senses” (Lensovet Theatre), Scarpetta’s “Underclass and Aristocracy” (Akimov Comedy Theatre). In Moscow Bychkov directed Mcdonnagh’s “The Beauty Queen”, Pirandello’s “The Man, the Beat and the Virtue”, Beckett’s “Happy Days” (Pushkin Theatre), Massenet’s “Werther” (Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theatre). Mikhail Bychkov staged at theatres in Riga, Tallinn, Vilnius, Rostov-on-Don, Omsk, Saratov, Yekaterinburg, Taganrog and Krasnodar. He is organizer and Director of the Platonov International Festival in Voronezh.
