INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS
Since 2005 the Golden Mask has developed its activity in the field of international cultural cooperation. The first project outside Russia was a festival in Estonia – The Best Russian Productions in Estonia - in October 2005. For the Golden Mask, which had a wide range of experience in regional projects, this was the beginning of a new phase in the field of international cultural cooperation. Hundreds of spectators who came to Tallinn’s theatres to see Russian productions demonstrated the promising future of this project. In November 2006 the Golden Mask, together with its Baltic partners, initiated and implemented two international projects, in Estonia and Latvia. The best of Russian theatre was presented in Estonia and Latvia at the same time, from 14 to 19 November 2006. Positive reactions and the keen interest from theatre staff and audiences towards the productions of Moscow Art Theatre, the Tabakov Theatre and the Studio of Theatre Arts confirmed once again the inviolable links between our countries. These theatre forums undoubtedly became a significant event in the cultural life of the two countries. In the beginning of the summer of 2007 the festival Golden Mask in Latvia was held in two Latvian cities - Riga and Liepaya. The programme selected by the Board of Experts included productions of all theatre genres from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Omsk and Yekaterinburg. The third festival Golden Mask in Estonia took place in October-November 2007 in four Estonian cities – Tallinn, Tartu, Kokhtla-Yarve and Vilyandi. As before, the programme consisted of Golden Mask nominees and winners. Six productions from Moscow, St.Petersburg and Omsk theatres were shown. These festivals are to become regular events, supported by the Ministry for Culture of Russian Federation and the governments and city councils in both countries. |
