The project was launched by the Golden Mask Festival in 2005 with the idea to present outstanding theatre productions and artists that have become part of the world theatre history. We aim to present to the Russian audience companies and artists whose works can be rightly called cultural heritage while remaining up-to-date and vibrant.

In the framework of the programme the Golden Mask has already presented theatre masterpieces from Russia, Germany and Italy, including “Brothers and Sisters” and “The Possessed” by Lev Dodin of the Maly Drama Theatre - Theatre De L'Europe (2005, 2006, St. Petersburg, Russia), "Der aufhaltsame Aufstieg des Arturo Ui" by Heiner Muller of Berliner Ensemble (2007, Germany), “Arlecchino, Servant of Two Masters” by Giorgio Strelher of Piccolo Teatro di Milano (2008, Italy). In 2009, the 15-th anniversary year, the Golden Mask presented the production of “PUSH” starring Sylvie Guillem and Russel Maliphant, William Forsythe’s IMPRESSING THE CZAR (Royal Ballet of Flanders) and Jiří Kylián’s LAST TOUCH FIRST (Holland Dance Festival).

In the current season the Golden Mask presents the famous Mark Morris Dance Company from the US with the production DIDO AND AENEAS. The performances will take place on March 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. at the Novaya Opera Theatre.
