The movie-essay of the main guru of Russian documentary theatre Mikhail Ugarov is at the core of the show. The “Teatr.doc” team under the leadership of director Sasha Denisova performs in the memory of their teacher his screenplay, written in 2009 but unrealized.
The characters of the show are a group of friends nostalgic about their Soviet-times youth, remembering and then reconstructing in their memory the events of 1964: Pitsunda, the sea, pine-trees, dancing to sad songs, trips in stuffy 3rd class trains and on scooters with the wind blowing in their faces, port wine, tents, waitress Lika. Now fully transforming into young business travelers, now commenting on the events of the 60s from today’s perspective, Doc school actors juggle with techniques and create an ultimately subtle performance structure where every moment is charged with tender irony and seething life. The show about the recent epoch of love, power and youth cold-bloodedly stolen from the characters by the near and dear KGB.
